Rods and Vases
Rods and Vases. A scene found as was in a local manor house. Oil on Gesso 30.6 X 107 cm

Leaves
Cup and Leaves is a still life 20 X16 cm in oil on a gesso panel. I often start painting by looking for a while at something that has caught my eye. The idea of a cup, made to look like leaves, led me to the William Morris designed wallpaper and of course to some Autumn leaves which would soon be gone, only to grow again. The way the cups appear when stacked reminds me of leaves that pile up on the ground in Autumn, but I couldn't say if this idea occurred after the picture was done or before I started it.

Lemon & Glasses Lemon and Glasses 17.2 x 25.5 cms. Lemon yellow is a difficult colour to paint in shadow. Is it green, violet, certainly it shouldn't be muddy. The cleanness of glass and the freshness of lemon seem to give them a similarity.
