The white horse at Uffington is well known through the painting by Eric Ravillious that hangs in Aberdeen Art Gallery. Our local white horse at Alton Barnes is less well known and I would like to redress the balance. The hay bales in this painting have been lined up awaiting the lorry to move them before the field is ploughed and look a little like the wheels of a train, the scene echoes the train carriage window through which you see the white horse in the Ravillious. |

Crop Circles are a regular occurrence in the Summer nowadays. Some people say they are made by aliens, some say it is all down to two men named Doug and Dave. If it is Doug and Dave, how they get so much done without being seen is just as great a mystery as any. What ever the cause there is no denying that they are spectacular |
