Rory & Rebecca
In 1999 I was asked by MW Guinness to paint portraits of her
children
Rory and Rebecca.
I painted the picture of Rory first as he was available. He had
just finished his A-Levels and was about to embark on a series of world
travels. England were playing a test match at the time so Rory had to
rush
off every now and again to see how we were getting on. I painted the
background
at these tmes.
Rebecca sat in the summer of 2000 when she was not roguing. Roguing
is pulling up the wild oats from the wheat crop. I doubt anyone but the
Guinnesses use this meathod anymore but the young enjoy doing it and it
gives the best results (apparently). Each day we ate a wonderful lunch
around a large table with the Guinness sisters and their Roguers,
surrounded
by beautiful paintings at Biddesden house.
